MARDAANI *First Trailer Analysis* by Danish Lakdawala

I'm back!!! But not with a review or a prediction of a film, rather with something new this time. Yes it's my debut post on trailer analysis for a movie.

Last two movies namely Talaash and Bombay Talkies gave Rani Mukerji a lot of appreciation for the portrayal of a grieving mother who lost her son and a mature lady coming in terms with her husband's sexuality.

Let's get to Mardaani now. Starring Rani Mukerji in lead as Shivani Shivaji Roy as a tough cop suits her with perfection. In one word, the trailer is OUTSTANDING.

Lets start analyzing the trailer in pieces. The way it starts wasn't expected from YRF, it is serious, mature and has hard-hitting facts to show - impressive. Not like your normal masala movies which m like Humshakals released recently.

The trailer moves forward showing girls being abducted. Love the realistic direction from Pradeep Sarkar (who last directed Rani in Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007). Must say Pradeep Sarkar moved out of his comfort zone with this film. Moving forward, we hear a lady saying 'Inka make-up aise mat kiya kar jaise bacchiyan ho, unn haraamzaadon ko inme apni maashoka nazar aani chahiye' with some bold scenes showing how these girls are treated.

Enters Shivani Shivaji Roy, fearless, intense and action packed sequence shooting down a goon. The trailer looks edgy, dialogues seem to be well written. Rani Mukerji carries the role and the smaller nuances of the film with finesse. Further, we see a girl Pyaari been tortured by the mafia and Rani swears to find the '12th man of the under 19 team'. It is good to see YRF touching such a sensitive topic. We see Rani performing some real stunts, showing her power-packed performance which is absolutely stupendous to watch. The trailer keeps you gripped till the end, even after Rani slapping the guy, it keeps us wanting for more.
