Meter Down, Down, Down, Down!!

A particular day, while I was waiting for an auto-rickshaw, there was a lady who sat next to me (sharing basis). After sometime she started yelling the driver for high meter value. She started interacting with me, talking about how these drivers cheat customers by charging them high and she said that its her hard-earned money and she wouldn't spend even a rupee extra on such thing! She told me that they put a coin in the meter to make it faster, to which I was shocked!! Don't know whether that's the truth or just her thinking!
When we reached Santacruz station, she told me to give Rs.10 and she'll deal with him by giving just Rs.20 at the end. She yelled till the roof-tops and gave Rs.20 to him and went away. It was commendable to see a lady in late 40s fighting for consumer rights.
The same day, I went via auto from Santacruz (West) to my college at Bandra. I just said the driver unknowingly that his meter is working faster. I was confident about it, and looking at me, he stumbled asking, how much does it take to reach my college. I gave him a low fare amount, to which he said "Utna de dena, bas!"- Give me that much only.
I was amazed and further questioned him as to why are the meters fast? to which he shot back saying " If the auto's tyres are older, the meters would work faster." This was something I never came across.Interesting, Isn't it?
